{"id":12927,"date":"2022-10-13T05:13:52","date_gmt":"2022-10-13T05:13:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/qik.ety.mybluehost.me\/?p=12927"},"modified":"2024-06-18T12:13:01","modified_gmt":"2024-06-18T12:13:01","slug":"royal-caribbeans-michael-bayley-sees-calmer-seas-ahead","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/caribbeantourismauthority.com\/staging\/1605\/royal-caribbeans-michael-bayley-sees-calmer-seas-ahead\/","title":{"rendered":"Royal Caribbean\u2019s Michael Bayley sees calmer seas ahead"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The chief executive of the <\/span><b>world\u2019s largest cruise line<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> company is hopeful for relatively smooth sailing into the future as the company rebounds from the debilitating impact of the pandemic.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Speaking at this week\u2019s 28th annual <\/span><b>Florida-Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> conference, <\/span><b>Michael Bayley<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, President and CEO of Royal Caribbean International, reported demand was very strong with ships sailing at <\/span><b>strong load factors<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the Caribbean.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cOur short product ships are sailing at 110 percent and our longer cruises are now sailing at around 100 percent, so it\u2019s good to see that it\u2019s all come back,\u201d he commented, admitting that it has taken some time. \u201cAs we look forward into 2023, we feel pretty optimistic about how it\u2019s all looking.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bayley, who leads a global team of more than <\/span><b>50,000 employees<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> who deliver memorable family vacations to <\/span><b>millions of guests<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on over<\/span><b> two dozen ships<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that sail to more than <\/span><b>240 destinations<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, admitted that profitability is still a challenge given the pandemic-related debt the company took on board.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThe good news is that the demand has come back and our bookings are strong and the revenues are coming in. We\u2019re seeing very positive revenues from onboard spend, for example, and we\u2019re working our way through all of this, and we feel quite <\/span><b>optimistic about the future<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,\u201d said Bayley.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bayley, who is responsible for the cruise line\u2019s entire operation, which includes private destinations in <\/span><b>Labadee, Haiti<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and <\/span><b>Perfect Day at CocoCay in The Bahamas<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2013 the first in a series of private island destinations around the world known as <\/span><b>Perfect Day Island Collection<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2013 described the Caribbean as the number one cruise destination globally.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cIt\u2019s all year round. It\u2019s perfect. It\u2019s very close to the American market. It\u2019s got all of these incredible attributes and the people are friendly,\u201d said Bayley.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He lauded the FCCA for helping cruise industry stakeholders and destinations come together to overcome the biggest challenge the industry has faced in this generation: \u201cI think we\u2019ve developed in many ways better relationships because we\u2019ve spent a lot of time on <\/span><b>Zoom and Webex<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> over the past couple of years, and we\u2019ve had to work through a lot of issues and problems and challenges collectively as a team.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He also passionately articulated the importance of helping partner destinations during difficult times: \u201cNot only within Royal Caribbean itself, we feel like we\u2019re a family, but we feel like we\u2019re a family in the Caribbean. We started in the Caribbean. Our name is Caribbean. We have a huge number of Caribbean employees who work with Royal Caribbean, and we\u2019ve always felt that we\u2019re part of the Caribbean community. So when one of our neighbors is going through a difficult time, the first thing we think about is how can we help? And I think time and time again, you\u2019ll see that over the years and the decades, we\u2019ve always tried to step in and help as much as we possibly can.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bayley, who oversees the corporation\u2019s digital transformation of its business as well as its destination and port development, began his 40-year career in 1981 as an assistant purser on the cruise line\u2019s <\/span><b>m.s.
