{"id":13084,"date":"2023-04-13T03:50:28","date_gmt":"2023-04-13T03:50:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/qik.ety.mybluehost.me\/?p=13084"},"modified":"2024-06-18T10:43:49","modified_gmt":"2024-06-18T10:43:49","slug":"caribbean-culinary-potential-untapped-says-business-consultant","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/caribbeantourismauthority.com\/staging\/1605\/caribbean-culinary-potential-untapped-says-business-consultant\/","title":{"rendered":"Caribbean culinary potential untapped,  says business consultant"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A veteran Caribbean business consultant is advocating for greater promotion of the region\u2019s culinary potential.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Dr. Basil Springer<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a change-engine consultant and director of <\/span><b>Marketplace Excellence<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, believes that while Caribbean destinations are active in the marketing of their culinary offerings, there is still much untapped potential in cultivating the region\u2019s food and beverage experience.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dr. Springer called for a collaborative effort between farmers, nutritionists, chefs, bartenders, herbalists, culture bearers, business shepherds, and tourism marketers to fully explore the plethora of opportunities available to promote the region as a preferred <\/span><b>global center for culinary tourism<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He believes that there is a vast global market waiting to be tapped by Caribbean food and beverage brands, and that with the right guidance, smaller companies can navigate the regulatory and distribution hoops that bigger brands have jumped through to register success in the global marketplace. \u201cWe cannot look at this as <\/span><b>an opportunity for a select few<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,\u201d said Dr. Springer, who added that if approached strategically and supported with the appropriate funding this could have a <\/span><b>\u201ctsunami effect\u201d<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the marketplace.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dr. Springer also sees opportunity for the region to become a leader in promoting healthy lifestyles, affirming that the Caribbean has an abundance of fresh, healthy organic products available at a fraction of the cost of the international marketplace. \u201cWe should be featuring the views of nutritionists and food experts as well as our sports stars and legends across the media landscape on the importance of adopting healthy lifestyles,\u201d he added.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Encouraging <\/span><b>import substitution initiatives<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> can help to strengthen local industries, promote innovation, and contribute to a more diversified and resilient economy, Dr. Springer argued, while admitting he remained perplexed why many destinations in the region continue to service high food import bills while bypassing local food security initiatives.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cFor example, while christophene and apple have different tastes and textures, it is possible to prepare a christophene \u2018apple\u2019 pie by cleverly using spices and a little creativity. This is an innovative way to utilize local Caribbean produce in a familiar dessert.
