{"id":13530,"date":"2024-03-25T04:48:13","date_gmt":"2024-03-25T04:48:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/caribbeantourismauthority.com\/?p=13530"},"modified":"2024-06-18T10:26:04","modified_gmt":"2024-06-18T10:26:04","slug":"caribbeans-presence-routes-americas-2024","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/caribbeantourismauthority.com\/staging\/1605\/caribbeans-presence-routes-americas-2024\/","title":{"rendered":"Caribbean connects in Colombia"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"\">The Caribbean\u2019s presence was strong in Bogot\u00e1, Colombia during\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/caribbeantourismauthority.com\/airline-talks-take-off-in-colombia-this-week\/\">Routes Americas 2024<\/a><\/strong>,\u00a0the route development forum for the Americas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Held last week, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.routesonline.com\">conference<\/a> attracted several Caribbean destinations, whose executives connected with senior decision-makers from the region\u2019s leading airlines and other tourism and aviation stakeholders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">A panel discussion on\u00a0<strong>\u201cAviation Competitiveness in the Caribbean\u201d\u00a0<\/strong>provided much food for thought in addressing some of the key challenges facing the region\u2019s aviation sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">The Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) played a lead role in orchestrating the powerful discussion, which featured&nbsp;<strong>Dr. Kenneth Romer<\/strong>&nbsp;(Deputy Director General of Tourism &amp; Director of Aviation, The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism, Investments and Aviation);&nbsp;<strong>Trevor Sadler<\/strong>(CEO, interCaribbean Airways);&nbsp;<strong>Hans van de Velde<\/strong>&nbsp;(CEO, Windward Islands Airways International \u2013 WINAIR);&nbsp;<strong>Rafael Echevarne<\/strong>&nbsp;(Director General, Latin America &amp; Caribbean, Airports Council International \u2013 ACI); and&nbsp;<strong>Peter Cerd\u00e1<\/strong>&nbsp;(Regional Vice President, The Americas, International Air Transport Association \u2013 IATA), with&nbsp;<strong>David Appleby<\/strong>(Director, ASM) moderating.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Panelists discussed the&nbsp;<strong>high taxation and fees<\/strong>&nbsp;in the region, with some arguing that reducing these could increase demand and make travel more affordable. They also discussed the need for more&nbsp;<strong>deregulation and liberalization of the skies<\/strong>, and the potential for designating the Caribbean as a&nbsp;<strong>single domestic market<\/strong>.
