Ewald Biemans, the owner and CEO of Bucuti & Tara Beach Resort in Aruba, is an exceptional environmentalist and one of the foremost promoters of sustainable tourism in the Caribbean region. A recent recipient of the 2023 Caribbean Media Exchange (CMEx) Leadership Award for his outstanding contributions to environmental preservation and sustainable tourism, Biemans hails from Austria and embarked on his hospitality journey with stints at Hilton and Intercontinental in South America before earning a Bachelor of Science in International Business from Florida State University. His dedication to environmental sustainability and love for Aruba led him to manage various hotels on the island, including The Coral Strand Hotel, later to become the renowned Talk of the Town Restaurant and Resort. He subsequently co-owned and managed Manchebo Beach Resort before ultimately becoming the sole owner of Bucuti & Tara Beach Resort, an award-winning, certified carbon-neutral facility. Biemans has been recognized on numerous occasions, locally and internationally, for his environmental preservation work. Notably, he was honored at the United Nations COP26 in November 2021 and was the sole hotelier to be a launch signatory for the Glasgow Declaration for Climate Action in Tourism. As a long-serving board member of the Aruba Hotel and Tourism Association (AHATA), Biemans constantly seeks innovative solutions and embraces new technologies to further his environmental goals. During his CMEx acceptance speech last month, he eloquently expressed his deep connection to the Caribbean, his commitment to sustainability, and the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association (CHTA).
