All systems are go for the Caribbean Tourism Organization’s (CTO) Sustainable Tourism Conference (STC 2026) which opens in Belize today under the theme “Tourism in Full Color.” Stakeholders are looking ahead to the keynote address by Dame Pania Tyson-Nathan DNZM, Chief Executive of New Zealand Māori Tourism, who will present “Tourism in Full Color — A New Development Paradigm,” examining a more holistic and inclusive approach to tourism development rooted in Indigenous knowledge and frameworks.
The conference brings together local, regional and global thought leaders and practitioners to explore the future of tourism through the lens of the Blue, Green, Orange and beyond economies, reinforcing the Caribbean’s commitment to sustainable and inclusive growth. Set for April 27–30 in San Pedro, Ambergris Caye, STC 2026 will serve as a platform where ideas meet action, convening policymakers, private sector leaders and innovators to share insights, strengthen partnerships and chart a resilient path forward for Caribbean tourism.
In addition to sessions and technical workshops, the program includes a full day of “Sustainability in Action” site visits. Delegates will experience curated, immersive tours of locations such as the Lamanai Archaeological Reserve, Hol Chan Marine Reserve, the Hopkins Experience (including Palmento Grove Eco-Cultural and Healing Lodge, Che’il Mayan Chocolate and Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary), and The Chaa Creek Experience, offering firsthand insight into community-based tourism, conservation and cultural heritage initiatives.
STC 2026 is hosted by the Belize Ministry of Tourism, Youth, Sports & Diaspora Relations and the Belize Tourism Board, with sponsorship from Carnival Corporation & plc and Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd./Belize Island Holdings Ltd among others.
