ST. CROIX, U.S. Virgin Islands (June 17, 2026) — Club Med, a pioneer in all-inclusive hospitality with nearly 60 resorts in some of the world’s most sought-after destinations, and VICI Properties Inc., an S&P 500 experiential real estate investment trust, have announced the acquisition and planned redevelopment of Carambola Beach Resort in St. Croix, marking Club Med’s return to the United States.
The future Club Med St. Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands will strengthen the brand’s position in the premium all-inclusive segment while breathing new life into one of the island’s most iconic beachfront properties.
The project stems from a partnership between Club Med and VICI. Following its acquisition of Carambola Beach Resort, VICI entered into a long-term triple-net lease agreement with Club Med and will fund the property’s redevelopment to meet the standards of Club Med’s Exclusive Collection, the brand’s highest tier of luxury all-inclusive resorts. Club Med will operate the historic 150-room property, transforming it into a destination that blends sustainability, cultural authenticity and elevated hospitality.
“The U.S. Virgin Islands represent an exciting new chapter for Club Med,” said Carolyne Doyon, president and CEO of Club Med North America and the Caribbean. “For more than seven decades, we’ve welcomed North American travelers to our destinations around the world, and now we’re bringing that experience back home. With St. Croix’s natural beauty, strong community spirit and deep cultural roots, together with the longstanding legacy of this hotel, this project reflects our vision for thoughtful growth and meaningful connection across the Americas.”
Originally developed in 1986 by philanthropist and conservationist Laurance Rockefeller, Carambola was envisioned as a model where hospitality and environmental stewardship coexist. Club Med’s redevelopment plans call for a comprehensive renovation that preserves the property’s natural surroundings and honors its historic character.
Nestled between a crescent-shaped beach and lush tropical rainforest, the resort was previously operated under the Renaissance brand.
Construction is expected to begin in summer 2026, with the resort targeted to reopen in the fourth quarter of 2027.
