GEORGETOWN, Guyana (July 13, 2026) — The Caribbean Community’s associate membership has increased to eight with the admission of Martinique and French Guiana.

CARICOM and Martinique signed an agreement granting the French territory associate membership in February 2025. In June 2026, CARICOM received an instrument of accession from the French government, allowing the agreement on CARICOM’s privileges and immunities to take effect.

Martinique formally became an associate member June 16 and participated in the 51st Regular Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of CARICOM in St. Lucia last week.

French Guiana became CARICOM’s eighth associate member July 7 after signing an agreement outlining the conditions of its membership. It also participated in the meeting of CARICOM leaders in St. Lucia.
