ST. MAARTEN (November 11, 2024) – St. Kitts is experiencing significant growth in its tourism sector. Kelly Fontenelle, the new CEO of the St. Kitts Tourism Authority, is eager to capitalize on this momentum. Speaking at the 30th annual Florida-Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA) Cruise Conference and Trade Show in St. Maarten, Fontenelle emphasized tourism’s vital role in the island’s economy.
Fontenelle expressed her enthusiasm for St. Kitts’ potential, stating, “St. Kitts is such a beautiful island. We offer an exceptional product, and we have very hospitable people.”
She underscored the significance of the FCCA conference in providing valuable feedback from cruise lines. “FCCA helps us to meet with the cruise line [executives] … to let us know what we need to do better … [especially] how to improve our shore excursions,” Fontenelle explained, noting that direct feedback from cruise executives is crucial for the island’s continuous improvement.
Looking ahead, Fontenelle is optimistic about St. Kitts’ tourism prospects. “Our numbers are pacing high, so we are excited about that,” she said. She also noted the increase in airlift, aiming to position the island as a year-round destination. St. Kitts is served by major U.S. airlines such as JetBlue Airways, United Airlines, American Airlines, and Delta Air Lines. At the same time, Caribbean Airlines, Sunrise Airways, and InterCaribbean Airways have stepped up their regional services.
Fontenelle also stressed the critical role of social media in marketing St. Kitts and the Caribbean. “Social media is the most important free access you have to advertise,” she remarked. She elaborated on its significance in reaching diverse audiences and showcasing unique experiences, making it an invaluable tool for destination marketing.
