Excitement continues to build as the Caribbean Media Exchange (CMEx) Leadership Awards and Fundraiser draws closer. This year’s ceremony, scheduled for Sunday, December 8, 2024, at the Loews Coral Gables Hotel in Miami at 11:30 a.m., will celebrate the accomplishments of Caribbean leaders and trailblazers in tourism, public health, and communications. Today, CMEx spotlights two of its distinguished honorees: Dr. Lisa Indar and Christine Valls.
Dr. Lisa Indar, Ad Interim Executive Director, Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA)
Dr. Lisa Indar is a highly respected public health leader with over 20 years of experience managing and executing public health surveillance and response on regional and international levels. Currently serving as the Ad Interim Executive Director of CARPHA, Dr. Indar has made significant contributions to promoting health safety across the Caribbean, especially through her innovative management of CARPHA’s health response to major events like the COVID-19 pandemic and the ICC Men’s T20 Cricket World Cup.
As the architect behind CARPHA’s Regional Tourism and Health Program (THP), Dr. Indar has spearheaded initiatives to address health and environmental sanitation challenges in tourism, supporting sustainable tourism and economic resilience. Her commitment to regional health security has not only ensured a safer Caribbean but also fostered confidence among travelers, solidifying the Caribbean as a premier, healthy destination.
Christine Valls, Director of Sales for Latin America and the Caribbean, United Airlines
Christine Valls, Director of Sales for Latin America and the Caribbean at United Airlines, has been a driving force in the airline industry for more than 30 years, spending the majority of those years as an executive leader at American Airlines. Known for her people-centered leadership and results-driven approach, Valls oversees a commercial strategy that generates $1 billion in revenue, managing a team of over 200 and 26 City Ticket offices across the region. Her dedication to strengthening relationships and nurturing growth in the Latin American and Caribbean markets has earned her wide respect across the industry.
With a passion for the region, Valls has supported numerous community and charitable initiatives. Her commitment to excellence and visionary leadership have set new benchmarks in tourism and aviation, making her an invaluable asset to the industry.
